Kienitz, DO consults with patients and employers about Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulation issues as well as injury prevention in heavy and light industry. Occupational medicine is the study of health and safety within the workplace. Guidelines are developed and implemented by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration in order to ensure that workers and employers are aware of workplace hazards and injury prevention strategies. On May 11, 2016, OSHA issued a new rule that requires employers to submit workplace safety information electronically. This will allow the public to have access to occupational safety data. The new rule also states that employers are prohibited from retaliating against workers who report incidents. The new rule is intended to encourage employees to report incidents that threaten their safety. The new rule was set because of concerns over workers who do not report safety hazards because employers provide incentives that discourage them from doing so. |
